About Mogujie (Mogujie.com)
The name 'Mogujie' directly translates into 'mushroom street' but in reality Mogujie has nothing to do with mushrooms.
Founded in 2011 in Hangzhou, China (also the home of Alibaba), Mogujie is a social fashion online store and app offering the latest and most fashionable clothing trends in China. Like Meilishuo, Mogujie is sometimes seen as the 'Pinterest of China', seeking to blend social media and social networking with online shopping, and is one of the few Chinese companies forefront of the push from e-commerce and mobile commerce to social commerce. Mogujie currently has over 130 million registered users and over 8 million active daily users. Users on Mogujie interact with one another by creating photo collages of clothes, shoes and other fashion items to share with each other. These items are available for purchases either via merchants hosted by Mogujie or through other e-commerce sites which are paying referral commissions to Mogujie.
Popular especially among Chinese females, Mogujie is described as a platform which 'allows users to exchange ideas, experience, product information, and deals about fashion and shopping'. In January 2016, Mogujie (Mogujie.com), in line with its position as one of China’s biggest fashion-focused e-commerce services, agreed to take over competitor Meilishuo (Melishuo.com) to form a new company valued at roughly US$2.5 billion. However, both Mogujie and Meilishuo are currently still run as separate platforms with separate URLs.
